José Miguel was born in Porto, Portugal. His passion for traveling, nature and environmental conservation comes from the times he spent the mornings stuck to the TV watching Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Sir David Attenborough series.
While in the 2nd year of university, at only 21 years old, he founded his first adventure tourism company -Rumo ao Monte- and even before finishing university he started to teach Physical Education in schools. However after 10 years as a school teacher he abandoned the career to give body to a new company of team work and adventure sports -Elemento Terra- which he ran successfully for the next few years. After that he ventured solo backpacking to India, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Nepal, Brazil, Morocco, Costa Rica and Greece.
Nowadays he is the Iberian Office Director where he is responsible for all school and university volunteer recruitment.
He made one of his childhood dreams come true in 2016 by getting his Open Water PADI Dive Course with Opwall in Greece.
