Welcome to the Operation Wallacea expedition status page. This page is intended for updated arrival information for each site. Please note that due to timezone differences, updates to this page may be delayed by a few hours, and we cannot give specific information regarding school groups or individuals.
We advise all the parents or loved ones of our expedition attendees that it is not unusual to have no contact with participants throughout their project. Most of our sites do not have phone signal, and those that do have intermittent signal typically have activity schedules that make it difficult to find the time to call home. No news is good news, and we will always get in touch with emergency contacts if something were to happen.
The UK Office operates 24/7 contact numbers during our season, you can find the numbers on the right. Outside of UK office hours (9am – 5:30pm Monday-Friday) we would ask that people only contact us if there is an emergency, in order to help us keep the line clear.
We are sometimes able to post updates of our expeditions on our social media, visit our biodiversity messaging page to see our most recent updates on instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Twitter

Safety Statement on the State of Emergency in Lima
We understand that news of a state of emergency can be concerning, and we want to reassure all participants, families and stakeholders that we are closely monitoring the situation in Lima alongside our trusted in-country partners.
At present, the state of emergency has been implemented as a precautionary measure to enhance security and mitigate potential risks. These measures are commonly used in response to local challenges and do not necessarily indicate immediate danger to travelers. Our research sites remain unaffected, and all planned activities are continuing as scheduled.
For participants transiting through Lima, we have well-established safety protocols in place. Hotels are located in secure areas, airport transfers are fully coordinated, and there is no requirement for participants to leave designated accommodations during their layover. We remain in close contact with local authorities and will adjust plans if necessary to ensure the continued safety and well-being of our teams.
We will provide ongoing updates as needed, but at this time, there is no cause for concern regarding the expeditions. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
