Brazil Regional Manager – Nayara Hachich
Nayara is a biologist (UFSC, Brazil) with a MSc. in Ecology from Unicamp, Brazil. During her studies she completed internships involving: management and environmental education of protected areas (RPPN Salto Morato and ESEC Carijós); a non-governmental organisation (Instituto Çarakura); running and assisting on small mammal research (marsupials and cavies); and reef fish community ecology (at LBMM, LIIP and MERG). She is also the founder of the Group of Environment Studies and Education (GEABio – UFSC).
She first found out about Opwall in 2013, during a promotion talk held at University of Oxford during her MSc overseas internship. She fell in love with Opwall from the beginning, given that it combines science, conservation and education, alongside working with local communities; everything that captivates her!
Her main interest is in coastal management and she is passionate about diving. Although, as an ecologist, she loves all ecosystems and the interactions that configures them. Moreover, she sees in education the basis for the social improvement and believes that scientific education is an important path to develop thinking and free minds. She loves traveling and is comfortable speaking portuguese, english, spanish and french. She has already been with Opwall on their Honduras expedition in 2014 and worked as a Opwall representative on the South Africa marine site in 2015. Besides that she keeps doing research, science communication and environmental consultancy as a hobby.
